What a urodynamic study involves
It's an outpatient study performed under local anesthesia (anesthetic gel in the urethra) to minimize discomfort. It typically takes 1 to 2 hours, plus time to interpret the results. It precisely measures your bladder's pressure, flow, and capacity.

- Fasting isn't required; a light diet before the study is recommended.
- Wear comfortable clothing that's easy to remove.
- Bring a 3-day voiding diary (how to keep one is explained in consultation).
- A negative urine culture and urinalysis, no older than 3 months.
- Certain medications are paused 5 days beforehand (specified in consultation).
- Arrive with a normal urge to urinate at the time of the study.
